Cab Drivers Pay 50 pounds for SmokingFrom words to action: in England 3 taxi drivers faced the fine at the rate of ?50 for lightening up in their cabs, but one driver was going to contest the accusation. Indoor smoking was banned at all workplaces and in public buildings in England on July 1. According to new law, a cab is a public place where smoking is prohibited by law. Lightening up in cars is considered as smoking in a public place and smoking ban in cars prevents the inconveniences to second-hand smoke, those who don’t light up. Though, it is possible to annul the fine if the drivers park their cars and get out of them to have a smoke cigarettes on line. Smoking is allowed only for individual transport, as long as it is used primarily for private purposes. Stratford-upon-Avon District Council said: “These drivers broke the law and they ought to pay this fine”. According to ordinance, smoking in prohibited places is considered as a criminal offence and offenders can face the fine from 50 to 1,000 pounds depending on the infringement. This act is a warning for those who continue smoking in cars and do not respect the law. |
