New pack warnings for New Delhi

A decisive battle against tobacco usage starts New Delphi government. In order to reduce the number of smokers, the government structure of the capital city of India found a new resolution. In New Delphi recently new warnings that will be put on the surface on every pack of cigarettes, instead of old ones, were introduced. It was decided to change old image into something more persuadable, in order to remind about negative effects of smoking. The new representation displays skull and cross bones. The Lok Sabha decided to introduce this picture on all cigarette packs which are sold or produced on territory of the city.

This introduction met opposition in lines of PM’s representatives and some political parties. As they sustained, new picture can hurt “religious sentiments expressed by certain sections of society”. Displaying of the picture on packs ought to be optional rather than mandatory. However, this opinion was rejected by the biggest part of New Delhi government and it was decided to substitute the knowing representation and not to take into account any other opinions.

New improvement is not a fresh launched idea against the usage of tobacco products. It is an amendment introduced in the subsection (1) of section 7 of the cheap cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003.

As it was related, according to sub-section(1) of section 7 of the Act, no person shall, directly or indirectly, produce, supply or distribute cigarettes or any other tobacco products unless every package of cigarettes or any other tobacco products produced, supplied or distributed by him bears thereon, or on its label, the specified health warning.

This bill was initiated as a movement to protect public health and reduce the usage of tobacco products.
