Crowd Tobacco Festival

Recently, Lake City celebrated “Tobacco Festival”. This is a very important event for city when a lot of people get together in order to see it. This year the 2007 South Carolina Tobacco Festival was celebrated.

Celebration began with a parade in Main Street, and a pet parade followed on the Main Stage in Town Square in the afternoon.

Such events as tobacco tying and karaoke, where everyone who wanted took part, were also organized. And, of course, what a festival without agricultural exhibitions?

Everything was very interesting. Dancin’ On Main, Children of God Dance Team and Kelley’s Fine Arts showed a presentation full of dance and gratification.

Organizers arranged great sales “The Largest Yard Sale”, sponsored by Florence County Disabilities in Church Street. Visitors of the Lake City Library contributed to annual fundraiser at the National Bean Market Museum of South Carolina.

“There was a steady flow all day long,” Sherri Moore, associate director of the National Bean Market of South Carolina, said.

“We had a lot of sales today,” said Pat Spencer, a vendor from the Grover community in Dorchester County.

Local newspapers announced about this great event. This explains growth tendencies, which the festival shows.

Spencer said she decided to take part in the festival after reading about it in a newspaper.

“I thought it would be interesting to attend,” Spencer said.

According to Lake City Police Chief Billy Brown, Lake City Fire Department firefighters, along with state Highway Patrol, directed traffic flow for the festival because Lake City police officers were attending the funeral of Lake City Narcotics Investigator, Stephen Weldon Hyman on Saturday. Brown said the Florence County Sheriff’s Office and South Lynches Fire Department assisted, as well.

Festival was closed by South Carolina Tobacco Festival Golf Tournament at Lake City Country Club.
