Scots defend smokers

Smoking ban is a worldwide project initiated in order to protect non-smokers from passive smoking. Veto on public smoking constitutes one of the points of wide-spread policy that refers to prohibition of smoking in pubs, restaurants, parks, partly in theatres.

Being focused on non-smokers, the community forgets about those who light up, turning them into more and more neglected ones. It is individual choice of each person to smoke or not. But, cig’ users opinions are taken into account quite seldom.

The creation of free-smoking areas in restaurants, pubs, and any types of such locations was regarded as an alternative variant for both parts. If attended pub or bar has not specially equipped smoking places, tobacco users ought to go outside and smoke there. It is unfair towards that part of citizens against whom this decision was approved, but it isn't discussed.

In Scotland the Court accused an owner of Happy Scots Bar pub, Hamish Howitt, of allowing his visitors to smoke. As Hamish affirmed, he was ready to go to jail for his beliefs. Howitt will appear before Blackpool Magistrates' Court on August, 1.

According to legislation, Hamish Howitt can be fined of 17,500 Pounds. This doesn’t scare him, as he would rather go to jail than to pay any penalty. He insists on that he would take the matter to the Court of Human Rights.

It can be cited from the most persuasive declaration of Hamish: “I don't incite to smoking in my pub as our karaoke bar next-door is completely non-smoking. I'm not pro-smoking just pro-freedom.”

“Having a pint and a cigarette tobacco in a pub is one of the last great enjoyments left for the working classes.”

“I'm not prepared to shove my customers outside in the wind and the rain to allow them their right to smoke.”
