Experts express eager desire to place pics of lung cancer on cig packs

More and more international experts are for substitution of the text warning from packs of cigarettes with graphical one, because, because as the experts affirm this will bring more positive results.

Several Asian specialists in respiratory diseases proposed to place on packs images of lung cancer, because smoking is responsible number 1 in respiratory diseases. The specialists suppose that the horror expressed by this kind of displays will encourage smokers to quit.

This problem was discussed at a conference that took place in Singapore, as the percentage of smokers is in increase in the Asia-Pacific, according to the fresh reports.

“If to be able to reflect the very bad and deadly effects of smoking, I think the Philippines should resort to a graphic warning on cheap cigarette online labels too,” Dr. Antonio Anzueto said at a recent press conference in Singapore.

Anzueto added that graphic warnings, such as photographs of severely damaged lungs or a malnourished baby would make smokers more enthused to stop.

”It has been done in Europe, Venezuela, Italy, Thailand and other countries. The number of sold packs went down by at least 25 percent in the first month alone,” the doctor noted.

At the moment, the cigarettes that are sold on the local tobacco marker have only text warning. Though, the picture-based warnings would work more convincing, due to its “expressive” pics.

The doctor mentioned that the Europeans pay more attention to this problem and become more responsible for their health, because in EU the sales of the cigarettes dropped for 25 %.

“Europeans are smoking less now because they are more aware of what smoking does,” the doctor said.

Anzueto believed that very soon the number of smokers will go down.
