Dramatic smoking is allowed in Ohio

Last event that occurred in smoking world was new law that was introduced by government of Ohio for theatres. As response to introduced 100% veto on lightening up tobacco product in public places, including on stage was permission of smoking using of a prop online cigarette if theatrical piece acquire it.

Sen. Kevin Coughlin (R., Cuyahoga Falls), chairman of the Senate Health, Human Service said that: “We were provided with a whole list [of plays] in which smoking is a central part of the plot”. Also, he added: “The Graduate was expressly written with the main character smoking as he progresses in age from boyhood to manhood. It has a meaning to the plot that the author intended. Many productions in their contracts with theaters require that, if they present a play, it has to be done exactly as the script is written.”

It is hard not to agree with below affirmations. If play depict time when namely lightening of tobacco is one of most important key then it must be used, namely one illusive.

Tracy Sabetta, spokesman for the American Cancer Society sustain: “If smoking is written into a theatrical performance and has to be portrayed, a prop cigarette can be used. Actors don't drink real alcohol when on stage.”

Along with Ward Whiting, executive director and booking agent for the Stranahan Theater in Toledo said ” Smoking on stage is part of the theatrical event that is taking place, just as dancing and singing are.”

Susan Metz-Foster, immediate past president of the Ohio Community Theatre Association affirmed about banning of cig’ smoking on stage that: “These props look so realistic, even on the small stage and close up. I would defy anybody to tell he wasn't smoking a real cigar. Theater is all about illusion. The prop gives the illusion of smoking.”

.So appeared the question:” Why to interdict if it isn’t real smoking?” If lightening up of cigarettes or cigars depict namely that period of theatrical piece it is difficult to alter it. It is hardest to do this if smoking is fundamental environment in acting.

An example of this play is “12 Angry Men” that Susan Metz-Foster cannot suppose to perform because this play contain fragment of jury deliberations in a 1950s murder trial, time when smoking was the background itself. As she said: “That is such a period piece. You have to do it period or it's not going to work. Our theater is considering this one for next season. If you can't do it with the smoke, you probably choose another show.”

New amendment is planed to be reviewed on April 16, and would have legal force beginning with April 30.
