Marlboro Miles
There are two features that guarantee long time success of any smoking product is its qualitative taste and wise advertising. And the more exclusive is the advertising the more productive results will come.
This kind of product encouragement was used many times in merchandising industry of different spheres of manufacturing.
The same was used for cigarette advertising. While some tobacco producers used to advertise their cigarettes through sharing posters with images of cigarette brands to different smoking locals or placing them on billboards, the greatest cigarettes manufacturer Altria, found an original way of supporting strategy for its Marlboro brand. After brilliant “Marlboro Man” promotion they initiated Marlboro Miles campaign.
Marlboro Miles is another cigarette advertising campaign that the famous manufacturer of smoking products, Philip Morris, had used for promoting its famous Marlboro cigarettes. It appeared to be last major cigarette promotion for Altria Group.
Every buyer of Marlboro cigarettes automatically became participant of this campaign. Each Marlboro cigarette pack contained a number of points called “miles”.
Accumulating certain number of miles allowed adult cigarette smokers to order Marlboro merchandise from special catalog using points that were collected purchasing Marlboro cigarettes.
Documents of ordering selected products included following: all collected Miles, original order form from Marlboro Miles catalog and a photocopy of personal identity.
Last information is used to identify if persons who wanted to order, reached legal age to buy smoking products.
In April of 2006, Altria Company phased out “Miles” campaign.
But even today many Marlboro smokers contact Altria website, and even large online cigarette shops, trying to use Marlboro Miles coupons to order real Marlboros.
